On May 21st, ST4P team member Mitch Bell opened the Assist+ assistive technology center at the UPMC Mercy Pavillion which specializes in technology that empowers people of different abilities including adaptive gaming! Earlier this month, Mitch also put together the first ever adaptive gaming Master’s golf tournament where patients and staff at the Center for Assistive Technology challenged the Children’s Hospital Rehab Unit at UPMC Children’s to nine holes of virtual golf using a variety of adaptive gaming controllers. From Xbox controllers adapted with 3D prints for one-hand use to a webcam that lets players control their swing with a smile, Mitch showcased the power of assistive technology in gaming. Check out the video (starts at 1:59) to see the action!
